My expertise relates to evacuations, displacement, migration and relocation in the context of bushfires, other disasters, and the adverse impacts of climate change. With disasters increasing in frequency and severity, policies must be put in place at the international, regional and national levels to protect those forced to move – whether within their own countries or across international borders. I have written many scholarly papers, reports and books on this subject, including Climate Change, Forced Migration, and International Law (Oxford University Press 2012), and I am actively involved in key global policymaking processes, including as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Platform on Disaster Displacement. I have also served as an expert advisor to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration and the World Bank.
